September 6th, 2018., Canada’s Assurance Protection Group Inc. (APGI) is pleased to announce it has been chosen to assist Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd., an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Lucara Diamond Corp., to implement a security standard and provide the security assessment for its Karowe Diamond Mine located in Botswana. Karowe produces almost 300,000 carats per year, generating revenue of approximately US$200 million. APGI has been involved with Lucara for the past 24 months as an expert security consultant and continues to assure the excellent security programme now in place at Karowe.
In addition to the security standard implementation this year and a follow-up security assessment, APGI will be training Karowe Mine Security Staff. More than 30 security and other employees from Karowe will be trained in security topics including the Voluntary Principles for Security and Human Rights – Levels 1 and 2. In addition APGI in consultation with Karowe, will provide free seats on all its courses to members of the local community.
APGI CEO Jorrie Jordaan says, “We have been working with Lucara, as well as other mining companies across the globe, for a number of years, and one of the new highlights for us in Africa is providing training to local workers that can assist them in career development, with a focus on security and human rights.
APGI protects people, process and property and has access to some of the most skilled consultants on the planet. The team members pride themselves on their integrity, only giving clients what they need, not what they do not. The City of Pickering in Ontario, Canada is their most recent new client.
Johan Ras, who has been a leader with APGI in Africa, says, “One of the highlights of my career has been developing the Voluntary Principles for Security and Human Rights training course and working at mines across the world, with the local management and employees, to support their contribution to their communities in a safe and effective manner.”
Lucara is a leading independent producer of large exceptional quality Type IIa diamonds from its 100% owned Karowe Mine in Botswana. Lucara is listed on the TSX Exchange, Nasdaq Stockholm and Botswana Stock Exchange under the symbol “LUC”.
“Our goal as a company is to make the world more secure, one client at a time. To that end, we look forward to serving the employees of Lucara’s Botswana mine in the months to come,” says Kelly Strachan, Global Operations Director at APGI.
